Reinvest in Minnesota Reserve
What are the benefits of RIM Reserve?
The RIM Reserve program has been active in Minnesota for over 25 years. Its duration and success is a testament to the program and the multitude of benefits it offers:
- Enhancement of wildlife habitat, especially birds like Minnesota’s iconic Sandhill Crane, Sedge Wren, and Mallards.
- Protects vulnerable drinking water sources by improving both surface and ground water quality, and increasing groundwater recharge
- Reduces soil erosion
- Floodwater storage: water remains on the land, reducing the potential of wide-spread flooding
- Land investments put cash in rural landowners’ hands to create jobs in land restoration and native seed production. Economic studies have shown that 11 jobs are created for every million dollars flowing through RIM Reserve
Many bird species throughout Minnesota rely on RIM Reserve wetlands and associated grassland complexes for habitat and breeding. Click on the links below to learn about some of these species, their life history, ranges, songs, and ID tools.
